About Kristina Baré
Kristina Baré is an insight meditation teacher, therapist, and Somatic Experiencing practitioner. She has trained primarily in the Burmese lineages of Ven. Mahasi Sayadaw and Ven. Pa Auk Sayadaw.
Kristina enjoys supporting students deepening samadhi, loving-kindness and insight. Opening the door to an expansion of the heart and to liberating wisdom. In support of the Buddha’s teachings, Kristina also draws on knowledge from western psychology and Somatic Experiencing. She invites a kind, patient, and embodied approach as a base for samadhi, loving-kindness and insight meditation practices.
Dana
Kristina follows the age-old tradition of offering the Buddha’s teachings freely. In return, we have the opportunity to practice generosity (Dana) to support her in being able to continue to live and teach the Dharma. Your registration fee to Spirit Quest covers an admin fee, rental and insurance of the meditation hall, expenses for teacher travel to Gabriola, and Dana to the teacher. There will be a Dana talk at the retreat to help with understanding of this practice. The sliding scale is intended to reduce possible financial barriers to attendance. Retreat instructions will be sent to everyone about 3 weeks before the retreat.
What to Bring
Please bring your own lunch and utensils.
There will be cups available, and tea and cookies will be provided.
It’s best to wear layers, and clothes appropriate for walking outside during the walking periods; especially rain gear if it is rainy or windy weather.
There are chairs, and space in the front for floor sitting. There are some cushions and blankets available; it is recommended to bring your own if possible.
Shoes stay outside; bring inside-slippers if desired.
Please arrive scent-free.
Location and Parking
The location is the Net Loft at 1960 Murray Road, Gabriola Island.
Parking is limited so it would be great to carpool. Please park on site, in the back lot and along the driveway, while keeping the driveway usable.
After that, along Murray Road, preferably on one side of the road only.
Walk down the driveway, past the main house on the right, past the ceremonial canoe on the left, and down to the Net Loft building at the water’s edge.
Retreat Instructions
Noble Silence will start after the introductions, and end at the question and answer period just before the end of the retreat in the afternoon. This is a rare opportunity to support our awareness practice by keeping the inside of the meditation hall as quiet as possible. Please arrive by 8:45 am, and once you have signed in, find your seat and settle in quietly. If you need to speak with someone, please speak softly or go outside.
Also we are looking for 2 volunteers to prepare a gluten-free lunch for Kristina and share it with her in the loft area. Please contact us if you are interested.
While the registration fee covers the retreat expenses and a percentage goes to Dana (donation for the teacher), there will also be a Dana envelope for Kristina provided for those who wish to offer further monetary support for her to continue her own practice and teaching. There will be a Dana talk to explain this age-old generosity practice.
