In the dark of early evening on the November 5th Full Moon, 40 people entered the Gabriola Theatre Centre, which was neatly staged and ready for the Samhain Ceremony. Three costumed figures adorned the center of the room, with chairs hugging the walls and people socializing about. We were introduced to the Four Directions as we honored each for their attributes and strength. Eventually we met the three figures in the center: the Maiden, the Mother and the Crone, who shared with us their characteristics, power and wisdom. A Celtic drum took us on a visualization journey to the island of our ancestors, where we visited with a special person from our past. Holding hands, we began a spiral dance twisting and turning through the room, sometimes looking at the backs of others and sometimes looking in the eyes of our fellow participants. The evening closed with songs appreciation and more Celtic drumming. For an event I had trouble pronouncing, we all received an honoring of the elements, directions, womanhood and a welcomed send off into the Celtic New Year. Thanks to all who put on this event and everyone who chose to participate.
