Mary began the beautiful Gabriola morning with a land acknowledgement and an opening meditation reminding us to focus on the triangle at the base of our spines reaching down to the earth, the arrow at the top of our bodies reaching up and the space traveling between.
Pui Ming welcomed 26 of us into her beautiful hexagonal studio space, a jewel in the forest and meadows stretching out to sea and mountain vistas. She shared her feelings of vulnerability bringing a group into her solo space where she comes in the morning to sit and welcome whatever sound and notes present themselves. She asked us to be part of the silence and the creation of sound, voices, music and energies, inspiring and contributing to each other.
Into the silence of meditation, Pui Ming’s notes on the piano resonated; I felt the music going up and down my chakras, healing, uplifting, grounding. The sunlit maple leaves, green grass carpeted with white wildflowers, two white doves flying by, leaves moving with the piano notes dancing, searching, alighting.
When Pui Ming’s clear notes paused, she asked people to share their responses, and we heard words like sacred, sacrum, love, peace, nature, the land, honoring first nations here, healing, thankfulness and more.
“This land has changed me, as it changes all of us,” she said.
At the break, so many voices arose: friends greeting friends, hugs, conversations, some going outside to breathe it all in. When Pui Ming sat at the piano again, she said she would begin by playing what was arising from the energy in the room; the music started off lively and multi layered.
Our hearts opened. For some, like me, an opening heart brought tears of release, gratefulness, vulnerability, love, so much appreciation for Pui Ming’s deeply felt gift. She reflected that she had started the morning on all white keys and ended, surprisingly, on all white keys. The magical nature of creation, beginnings and endings, circle of life.
Thank you Pui Ming. All that you share and inspire keeps resonating in body, sprit, mind and community all day and beyond.
Thank you Spriit Quest for envisioning and hosting this exquisite experience so generously offered by Pui Ming.
Thank you Mary for closing our morning together with a dedication for the relief of suffering for all beings and ourselves. We are all in this together. May all beings be free from suffering and its causes.
